How many tents do you have?

Arabian nightWe have designed your luxury experience with your privacy in mind so we only have 4 luxury Safari tents, 1 Empress tent with outside shower and bath, a remote adventure bell tent and 1 luxury Tipi on our 50 acre property with a maximum of 2 guests per tent.

What time can we check in and out?
Check in time is at 2pm and check out is 10am
How close are your safari tents to each other?

We have four safari tents – Kalahari and Out of Africa are 60 metres from any other tent. Our newest tents Casablanca and Serengeti are approximately 30metres apart, these tents face out onto their own private parklands. Our smaller tents are atleast 100metres from anything/anyone!

All tents were built with creating a space with both luxury and privacy in mind.

Do we have to bring our own food?
Yes – some guests prefer to bring their own food and beverages, however with prior notice we can provide you with one of our delicious cheese platters or BBQ packs (both BBQ Breakfast & BBQ Dinner packs are available for pre-purchase).

Our Safari tents have complimentary ground coffee, teas, sugar, salt and pepper and oil for guests use.
We also have a mini bar inside each safari tent, in addition to the premium French wine collection which is held in our cellar and delivered upon request.

Are the Safari tents all weather?

All of our tents are extremely capable of withstanding our Queensland climate whether it be wind, rain, sunshine or hot or cold. Our Safari tents are a cool 20 degrees inside when 35 degrees outside, with the full length flyscreened floor to ceiling letting in breezes, 3 insulating top layers and large breezy doorways and plenty of fly screened windows all around….infact they work much like a Queenslander, being raised up on a deck for cooling. Our other tents are superb in all weather events. Come wind , rain, hail or sunshine …..our tents cope with it all!

We have a very quiet toddler, can we bring them?
Kanimbia is designed as an adults only retreat – we have several waterholes on the property, along with horses and dogs. In winter the indoor woodburners can also be a hazard for small children. In addition to this many of our guests have left children at home to specifically enjoy some time away.
Do you have a fridge? Or a microwave?

Yes! Our kitchenette inside each Safari tent has both of these plus a deck Weber BBQ, and a toaster & kettle. We also provide a saucepan, frypan and basic cutlery & crockery for your stay. Our smaller tents use the fridge and microwave available at the shared BBQ amenities hut which has a shared kettle, toaster, BBQ, fridge and microwave.

Do you sell Ice?
We have a very small amount of ice available onsite but do not sell bags of ice – the BP at Mapleton (next door to the IGA) sells bags of ice, as does the BP at Kenilworth.
Do you have phone reception?

Yes most networks are available onsite although Vodaphone remains a problem.

Can we have more than 2 guests in a tent?
No we are an exclusively adults only retreat and cater for only 2 guests per Safari tent/tipi.
Can I bring my own tent?
We only have our tents available for guests and do not allow guests’ own tents.
Do you internet in the tent?

In the Safari tents only we have Netflix, YouTube and all the apps on the Smart TV’s and hotspotting from your mobile phone is widely available.

What is there to do on the property?
Your stay at Kanimbia is designed for relaxation! Switch off and re-charge. Inside each tent we provide books and board games, as well as several outdoor games such as Skittles and Boules. We also have bikes for hire if you feel like a little ride around the property, in search of a favourite little nook to enjoy a bottle of wine or a picnic. To really enjoy maximum relaxation mode we highly recommend one of our massage packages for a luxurious massage in the privacy of you tent surrounded by our natural bushland.
Do you have a pool?
We actually have our own unique swimming hole in the wetter but warmer months. Follow the sign to the creek and follow the path along to the right and you will see our favourite place to have a secluded dip.
Do you have aircon?
Our luxury African safari tents are made for breathing in hot weather and with being raised off the ground on wooden decking and triple insulated with ceiling fans positioned to receive good breezes on all four sides when the canvas flaps are raised. Many of our guests have commented that they find our tents surprisingly cool in summer which is why we have found it not necessary to have air-conditioning installed, and allows you to instead enjoy the peace and quiet of the bush surrounds at Kanimbia.
How hot is it inside the Safari tents in summer?

Fantastically versatile the outside temperature can be 35 degrees but a cool 20 degrees inside. They are surprisingly cool being triple insulated above, ceiling fans, 12metres of full length flyscreened doorways along the entire side of our Safari tent, huge double front opening and windows all around to catch the breezes, set up on cooling decks and are manufactured to cope with the hot African weather which can be very similar to our hot Queensland summers.

What about heating in winter?

Our Safari tents & Marrakesh empress tent have the luxury of woodburning heaters which produce enough heat for even the coolest of winter nights. Even when it’s not so cold guests love the cosiness of warming their toes in front of the firelight. We also provide each guest with a cosy hot water bottle to snuggle up to on the colder nights.

Is there wheelchair access?
Yes two of our tents are accessible by wheelchair and the gravel roads around the tents are flat and easy to navigate
Where is your nearest supermarket?
Approximately 10 minutes drive before arriving at Kanimbia is the IGA Mapleton which is our nearest supermarket with the largest range of items, and there is a bottle shop inside the Mapleton Tavern. There is also a Friendly Grocer and bottle shop at Kenilworth, which is approximately a 15 minutes drive.

We recommend the Nambour heights butcher for a great cut of meat just as you are heading out of Nambour on the Mapleton road.

What time can we check in and out?
Check in time is at 2pm and check out is 10am
Can we ride the horses?
Unfortunately one of our horses is unbroken in and the other is far too fat and lazy to ride! They love meeting guests but for horseriding guests can ride on the beach at Noosa North Shore for a really fun experience.

What walks do you recommend in the area?
Kondalilla Falls is one of the most popular hikes on the Sunshine Coast with not only beautiful views, but also a 90m waterfall, and a reinvigorating waterhole for swimming. The Kondalilla circuit walk is an easy 4.6km, or for a more challenging hike start at Baroon Pocket Dam and walk the 20 km to Kondalilla (about 5 hours). Baxter Falls in Kondalilla National Park is another 2 hour walk nearby that has a beautiful suspension bridge to take you through the lush subtropical rainforest.

There are lots of other easy walks in the nearby Mapleton National Park including the Mapleton Falls 1.3km walk (with a 120 metre waterfall & views of the Obi Obi Valley) as well as The Gheerulla Falls 2.7km walk with it’s own little secluded swimming hole.

For serious hikers each October there is the 3 day Great Noosa Trail Walk that takes you through the Noosa Hinterland towns of Cooroy, Kin Kin & Pomona, packed with secret viewing points of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and ocean. From 2022 there is also the option to do just the one day walk. Contact GNTW for further information.
